Cooling Fan Shootout at Motherboards.org
So, you've decided to get one of the heavy-duty heatsinks for your system so that you can do some serious overclocking. Something like a Swiftech MCX series, or Thermalright SLK series. Now you are trying to figure out which 80mm fan to put on this bad boy. This is a question that I get very frequently in our forums; so today I will be reviewing five heatsink fans from five different manufacturers. Two of the fans are considered the high-speed monsters of the cooling world: The Delta "Screamer" and the Vantec Tornado. Two are adjustable speed fans: The Thermaltake Smart Case fan II and the Enermax UC-8FAB. Lastly, I have included a basic Antec ball bearing fan.
All five fans will be tested to their limits while attached to a Swiftech MCX 462 heatsink. Arguably the best air-cooled heatsink on the market. Which one will do the best job of driving my roommates out… I mean, of cooling down my XP1700+ ThoroughbredB? Let's take a look at the "Tale of the Tape" and see what each has to offer.
